Movie review: Pompo The Cinephile
Rating: 4.5/5
Summary:
A movie about a sincere hardworking assistant director and movie buff that finally get to direct his first movie and achieve his dreams.
What I liked:
We have variety of interesting characters.
- The nepo baby who had privileged resources and background to make her into a child director prodigy but uses her privilege well by giving chances to the talented but less privileged characters.
- The passionate hardworking main character who was given a chance and proved his worth.
- The rags to riches actress
- The burnt out gifted kid (who helped MC raise fund)
- The supportive and humble successful actors
I love the theme of creating movie and how it portrays editing which makes this a unique movie
The theme is motivating and inspiring in general about achieving your dream and necessary sacrifice or effort you have to do
It kind inspired me to learn more on filmaking, e.g how certain scenes tell a story, which shot is best, etc
What I disliked:
Unnecessary off-putting fan service at the start
The core message is not clear/impactful enough
I was hoping it would have actual good advices for filmmaking, but some of it are questionable, e.g
- You only need an attractive lead actress to make a good movie
- you need to be an outcast to be a director
- movie has to be short, 90 min long
- you need to sacrifice everything to make good art/movie
