The Myth of Sisysphus by Albert Camus Review
The Myth of Sisysphus by Albert Camus Review Rating: 2.5/5 stars. Was a slog to read as it's academic or philosphical writing. It does help me understand a bit more on his absurdism philosophy. Which convinced me I don't really align with absurdism, mainly because i have faith in my religion. I disagree with his argument of philosophical suicide. I think if you rationally believe there is no god, but hence believe you need faith in god to give you meaning and fight the absurdism, then sure it can be philosophical suicide like he said. But in my case, I rationally believe in my faith, and hence believe it as the truth rather than a mental crutch to avoid the absurdism of the lack of meaning of life. One thing I wish he explained more is on how he think people should live. From what i remember, he emphasize on the sensuous experience, on the quantity of experience, but it's not very clear to me what it meant exactly. And what about suffering? he stated life is such an amazing experience, which it does, but for someone that has life full of suffering in their own perspective, even if it's not the Truth, what should he do? I feel like although absurdism, give a reason to keep living when you have nihilistic feeling, it doesn't give much reason to endure and kept living in suffering.
